Guidelines:
Healthy Maine Walks
provides information about routes in the state where the
opportunity exists for Mainers to take part in physical
exercise and the enjoyment of a healthy, active lifestyle.
The Healthy Maine Walks Web site will give walkers knowledge
of the routes available in their communities and elsewhere.
If you are a route
planner, manager, or avid walker on Maine routes and you
would like to register a walk with Healthy Maine Walks,
please follow the guidelines below.
-
Please check
the Healthy Maine Walks Registry (www.healthymainewalks.org)
to ensure the route is not already listed.
-
Information provided through
Internet submissions will be reviewed and may then
be
entered in an active database.
-
Only "public" routes
(which are defined as those that are on federal,
state, county, city, nonprofit entity property, and
for
which permission has been given for their use by the
general public) should be submitted to Healthy Maine
Walks.
-
Routes may
include designated portions of sidewalks, public running
tracks, forest trails, walkways/bikeways, rail-trails,
beach walks, or any other trail or route designated for
such public use.
-
Routes should
be a minimum of 1/4 mile in length.
-
Routes should
have no known hazards.
-
Routes that
create a loop are ideal, however linear routes are acceptable.
-
Parking, ideally
for both cars and bicycles, should be provided within
a convenient distance from the route's endpoint(s).
-
Please complete
the questionnaire in its entirety if you do
